How 50% of Our Clients Automate Cross-Dock and Dropship Supplier Fulfillment
PO creation
Manual per order → Automated
Sellable catalog
Own stock only → Own + supplier stock
Cross-dock and dropship are two of the most widely used features across the myFulfillment client base. Roughly 50% of clients use cross-dock, and 10-15% use dropship. These aren't edge cases -- they're core operational patterns for e-commerce sellers who need to sell products beyond their own warehouse inventory.
The Challenge
The fundamental problem is selling products you don't physically have. Without proper tooling, merchants face several connected issues: no real-time visibility into what their suppliers actually have in stock, inability to expose supplier stock as sellable inventory on their sales channels, manual purchase order creation every time a cross-dock or dropship order comes in, no automated way to distinguish between "ships today" (in-stock) and "ships in 72h" (cross-dock) on the storefront, and for dropship specifically, no mechanism for suppliers to confirm shipment or provide tracking that flows back to the end customer via the marketplace.
Top challenges:
- No visibility on supplier stock levels for cross-dock or dropship
- Manual PO creation for every order requiring supplier fulfillment
- No automated tracking push-back from supplier to marketplace for dropship
The Solution
myFulfillment provides an end-to-end supplier fulfillment automation chain covering both cross-dock and dropship scenarios.
What We Configured
Supplier stock synchronization runs automatically via URL, FTP, or custom crawlers, giving myFulfillment real-time knowledge of each supplier's inventory. The sellable stock pushed to sales channels combines own warehouse stock plus supplier stock, with availability messaging: "ships today" for in-stock items and "ships in 72h" for cross-dock items. When an order arrives, myFulfillment automatically identifies products needing supplier fulfillment and either reserves warehouse stock or flags items for procurement. Cross-dock products immediately appear in replenishment recommendations. Purchase orders can be auto-created and sent to suppliers via email, FTP file, or API call. For dropship orders, the PO includes the end customer's delivery address and a branded packing slip so the customer receives a package with the merchant's identity.
The supplier portal allows suppliers to confirm dropship orders, enter tracking numbers, and the information flows automatically back to the marketplace -- the merchant never needs to intervene.
Key benefits:
- Sellable catalog expanded to include supplier stock with availability messaging
- Automated purchase order creation and notification to suppliers
- Supplier portal for self-service dropship confirmation and tracking
The Results
PO creation
Manual per order → Automated
Sellable catalog
Own stock only → Own + supplier stock
The impact is systemic. Merchants expand their sellable catalog to include supplier inventory without carrying any additional stock. Purchase orders are created and sent automatically, eliminating the manual work of monitoring needs and contacting suppliers. Cross-dock products follow an optimized path through the warehouse: upon reception, the system immediately identifies which items should be restocked versus shipped immediately to waiting customers. For dropship, the supplier portal closes the loop entirely -- suppliers confirm fulfillment, enter tracking numbers, and this information flows back through myFulfillment to the marketplace, updating the customer automatically without any merchant intervention.
